In March, a heavy downpour brought floods to various parts of Los Angeles, California. The torrential rains turned the Los Angeles River into raging rapids.
Unfortunately, one dog fell into the river. But thanks to the quick and reliable response of the Los Angeles Fire Department, the poor pooch was saved. Keep reading to learn more about this dramatic rescue operation.
Rescuing the pup from the unstoppable river
The Los Angeles Fire Department picked up a call about a woman and her dog Scooby who fell into the river close to Burbank Boulevard. The fire department’s swift water team managed to pull the dog’s owner back to safety. However, the unstoppable currents carried the pooch downstream.
The shaken woman was then taken to a hospital for quick medical evaluation. On the other hand, the fire department continued its rescue operation. However, it was complicated by a well-intentioned civilian who attempted to save Scooby despite not having the right equipment.
Scooby, who was obviously stressed, bit the man and continued drifting downstream. The fire department’s rescue team had to save the man from the raging rapids.
Jenna Stregowski, a pet behavior and health editor, explained that in a moment of panic, an animal might see everything and everyone as a potential threat. Scooby was already terrified by his ordeal, and he might also find the rescuers scary.
As such, Stregowski advised that people should contact trained professionals if they wanted to help animals in danger.
Scooby’s all good
After almost three hours, the firefighters were able to take Scooby off the river. They then took him to an animal hospital for medical attention.
The officials from the Los Angeles Animal Services shared that Scooby was exhausted. He also had some slight abrasions on his paws. Nevertheless, he was all good.
Eventually, Scooby would be able to reunite with his owner.
