Sunshine, a Terrier mix, lived a difficult life on the streets of L.A. for several months. She spent time in various places until she ended up at a schoolyard in the summer. With no one around, she thought it was the safest place for her to stay in.
The dog didn’t want to be near humans and she chose wisely to take refuge on the campus. But soon enough, students would come back and she’d be forced to look for another haven. So before that happened, Brenda, a Good Samaritan, stepped forward and decided to help the poor dog.
Brenda sought help and ended up contacting Eldad and Loreta of Hope For Paws, a rescue group in L.A. She gave the rescuers the address of the school and they immediately headed out to save the dog. On-site, they did not see Sunshine, but something told them the pup was still there.
The rescuers searched the area and within minutes, Loreta spotted Sunshine hiding in the bush. She encouraged it to come out, but while it obliged, it did not let her come too close. It kept its distance and ran away every time she took a step forward.
The trio chased the dog and kept it from hiding behind the shipping container. After several minutes, Loreta caught it with a snare. But what seemed to be an already successful rescue mission soon proved to be far from being over.
Sunshine fought back and almost escaped. Even with two snares on, she refused to back down. She chewed off one of the snares so Loreta rushed back to the car to get a metallic one. In total, she had three snares looped on her, but she still attempted to break free.
The rescuers immediately transferred Sunshine into a travel crate, where she continued to bail out. She didn’t immediately realize that it was the start of a new beginning for her. But soon enough, she calmed down and learned that the people around her meant no harm.
With the help of a loving and experienced foster family, Sunshine made a great recovery. She got over her fears and eventually decided to trust humans again. And soon enough, she was ready for a new home.
