Stray dogs have rough lives and they usually have trouble adjusting to a new life. That is why foster parents play an important role in helping dogs during their transition.
This is the story of Belle, a stray dog, and her journey towards becoming a house dog.
Prue, a rescuer, discovered Belle because a friend called her about the stray dog. Prue traveled to Bali, Indonesia to work on the rescue mission. Once she was at the given location, she observed a hairless, malnourished dog that refused to approach anyone.
As her primary bait, Prue used cat food laced with sleeping tablets to attract Belle. The operation was somewhat disorganized because Belle was free to wander and could easily run away. However, the rescuer was lucky that day because Belle entered a garage when she was already tired. Prue took that chance to put on a leash on Belle.
Belle was terrified of everyone, including those who were attempting to help her. Prue thought that she may have had a difficult past. But despite Belle’s attitude, the staff at the vet clinic did their best to help her.
Belle spent three weeks in the clinic to recuperate and enable her fur to regrow. Prue was concerned about Belle since she appeared to be the type of dog that was unlikely to be adopted. At least, it was what she believed at that time.
Just as Prue was beginning to feel hopeless about Belle’s situation, her friend Kaho reached out to her. She wanted to become Belle’s foster parent. Prue agreed without any hesitation.
For the first two weeks, Belle hid beneath the bed. She barked anytime Kaho attempted to approach her. Two of Kaho’s other dogs also helped Belle become friendlier.
Kaho decided to adopt Belle. She was undoubtedly aware that it would be difficult for her to adjust to a new owner. Plus, Belle already grew close to her other dogs and they were all happy to be together.
