After spending two years with a gang of coyotes, a dog has been rescued and taken to safety. The 2-year-old stray, now named Wiley (after the Looney Tunes cartoon character Wile E. Coyote), was discovered living with coyotes near Kingston, New York.
According to Nicole Asher, the founder of Buddha Dog Rescue & Recovery, the pack was spotted and heard in fields, on private land, and near power lines. However, they were more shocked to observe a dog socializing with coyotes. Even though he did not appear to be in imminent danger, everyone felt that rescuing him was the wisest course of action.
Asher, who is renowned for her capture abilities, planned a strategy after another organization contacted her. She placed food on the ground to entice Wiley to return to the site. The feeding station was easily accessible and close to where Wiley had been observed. Wiley came with his coyote companions. It took only two nights to capture him.
Wiley, who had lived in the wilderness for years, was initially understandably afraid. He was growling and barking. Once freed from the trap, however, the dog immediately warmed to Asher and realized that he was only there to assist him. He embraced her and lavished her with kisses.
Asher then took Wiley to the veterinarian for an examination. Not only was he malnourished and filthy, but he was also infested with several ticks. In addition, he suffered from Lyme disease and Anaplasmosis.
Asher made every effort to locate Wiley’s owner. She meticulously combed through online forum groups to determine if anyone was looking for him. Having found nothing, she is now searching for a new home for the lovely dog. Asher highlighted that Wiley’s new owners must be patient, seasoned dog owners, and will always keep a careful eye on him.
