Homer was a homeless dog that found refuge at a gas station in Bali. Without anyone caring for him, he had a really tough time surviving. He barely found enough food to keep him from starving, and there was no way he could have prevented himself from getting sick.
Slowly, the dog lost weight. He was so skinny but his fur made him look like he was still in good shape. But by the time he lost all of his hair, his emaciated body became visible, and it was obvious that he suffered from a painful skin infection.
The dog would have not survived if not for Aaron Hughes, its rescuer. The very moment Aaron spotted the pup, he decided to help. He offered it some food and patiently worked on gaining its trust. As soon as he caught it, he took it to the vet for emergency medical care.
Homer had cancer and the vet suggested chemotherapy to try and save his life. However, there was no guarantee that he’d make a complete recovery. His chances weren’t so great but his rescuer and his entire vet team believed he will, so they gave him a chance.
Aaron went to the hospital to see the dog almost every day. He wanted to assure it that he will stay by its side throughout its healing process. At first, he only sat outside its kennel because he didn’t know how it would react if he touched it. But when he did, he was surprised to know that being touched was what it wanted all along.
After a few weeks of treatment, Homer held his tail high and wagged it for the first time. Knowing that there was at least one person who was willing to do everything for him gave him new hope.
Within three months of chemotherapy, Homer defeated cancer. He started growing his white fur back, and everyone he met saw the glimpse and hope in his eyes. He was happy again, but he was more delighted when he found his new home.
Homer’s new mom followed his story from the beginning. She was amazed by how resilient he was so she offered him a home. Under her care, he thrived even more and became the happiest, healthiest, and fluffiest Great Pyrenees mix he could be.
