Kinga Szpakiewicz loves to go hiking together with her 80-pound Rottweiler named Lusha. The duo sees hiking as an opportunity for them to bond. As such, they would often spend several days having hiking escapades in California.
For Kinga and Lusha, hiking also gives them a chance to take a break from the chaotic real world. However, when things go south, hiking could be a wrong idea. This is what Kinga and Lusha learned the hard way in their most recent hike.
While on a three-day hike on the Sespe Creek Tail in Los Padres National Forest, Lusha suddenly injured her paw. With this dilemma, it would be impossible for Lusha to finish the hike. This means, though, that Kinga needs to find someone who could carry her giant dog home.
Fortunately, other hikers saw Kinga and Lusha. The other hikers were a blessing in disguise for Kinga because she knows she could not carry Lusha by herself. The problem, however, did not stop there because the hikers were four miles away from the nearest trailhead.
With this limitation, the hikers carried the dog to a safe location and then called it a night. Lusha looked calm during the whole time, so Kinga also felt the same. The following morning, the dog’s condition did not get any better, so the original plan to bring her home continued.
After a few more walks, the group reached a place where there was a signal. As such, Kinga immediately asked for reinforcement from Upper Ojai Search and Rescue. When they heard about the situation, the volunteers came to the site without hesitation.
Six rescue teams hiked to where the hikers were to help rescue Lusha. Although the hike back was challenging, the rescuers were persistent. Together with the dog, the rescuers crossed rivers and other obstacles to bring her home safely. After the rescue, Kinga thanked the rescuers for their assistance in keeping her beloved dog safe.
