Brady Oliveira, an athlete and independent animal rescuer, was driving when he saw what appeared to be a puppy hiding beneath an old couch on the side of the road. He pulled over out of curiosity to see what was up. And upon approaching, he saw not one, not two, but six puppies running from under the couch.
The dog’s mother approached him as well, and he realized something was up. He presumed that the dogs belonged to the family who resided in the house. He wanted to discuss the dogs’ living conditions with them, but no one answered the door when he knocked.
There was no way he would abandon the dogs. He was aware that the puppies and their mother would suffer if left out in the cold for too long. Therefore, he sought assistance from the authorities and persisted until he was permitted to take the dogs with him.
After securing the mother dog in his vehicle, Brady continued to catch the puppies one by one. The first five puppies were easily captured, but the sixth was too afraid to allow the rescuer to approach. She made it difficult for him to catch her.
After almost thirty minutes, the rescuer finally had all the dogs and he was ready to head to the rescue center, where foster families were waiting. Because he couldn’t stop thinking about the last puppy, he took her from the trunk of his car and had her ride with him while he drove. He already seemed connected to her and chose to bring her home to foster.
The puppy, named Hazel by Brady for her glossy chocolate brown fur, was startled by the abrupt change in her environment. She froze in a corner and remained very still in her foster home. But after her first decent meal and bath, she began to relax and adjust gradually.
A few days later, Hazel began to play with Gunnar and Nellie, Brady’s dogs. She adored being around them, and it would have been too difficult for her to be separated from them when she was adopted. Fortunately, she did not have to go far to be with her new mother.
Hazel was adopted by Kallee, Brady’s sister. Her aunt became her mother, while her foster father became her uncle. She also has remained best friends with Gunner and Nellie.
