Our doggos are loving, smart, and loyal. They can be trained to obey commands which can be useful in so many ways. However, they’re not perfect pets, and every dog parent knows this. Although one can argue that there really are no perfect pets, it’s safe to assume that a dog is the closest to being one.
Our pups have plenty of weaknesses and one of them is their tendency to run away when they get spooked. This leads to puppers going missing, and sometimes it could lead to them losing their lives. This almost happened to a German shepherd and Labrador mix who was found floating in the frigid waters of Jamaica Bay in New York City.
This the rescue story of Georgia. Luckily for her, she was spotted by Scott and Carol Denaro, who were heading to their appointment with their eye doctor. They saw a strange figure treading on the water, and when they looked closer, they realized it was a dog. The Denaros tried to coax Georgia to come near them but to no avail.
But them calling out to the doggo, caught the attention of an NYPD Harbor Unit police officer. The officer realized what was happening, so he called for backup to help him scoop up the doggo from the freezing water. They dried Georgia off and wrapped her in a thick blanket.
After a quick scan of her microchip, the NYPD was able to get a hold of her dog dad, Jason. The fur parent explained that Georgia was startled by something, so she ran away from them. He tried to look for her everywhere, but he never thought his doggo would reach the Bay.
Jason was grateful to the police officers who got her out of the water, and to the Denaros who spotted her. If it weren’t for everyone’s collective efforts, who knows what would’ve happened to the pooch. This is an excellent reminder to all dog parents, to always keep a close eye on their doggos, and always secure them with a leash.
