Manenberg is a township in South Africa that has a growing problem with its stray canine population. Many of these animals are suffering from a lack of food and shelter, and not many rescue organizations are operating in their area. The dogs spend their whole lives in the streets and only a few find their way into loving homes.
One of them is a young pooch named Scribble. He often tried to find himself a family that would love him. To do this, the little guy would follow people to their homes, trying hard to catch their attention and, hopefully, their love. Sadly, he is ignored all the time, and there would be moments when his persistence would result in pain.
Some people got annoyed with him and would kick and hit the little pup. This resulted in injuries that made the poor pooch walk with a limp.
Sidewalk Specials
The story about the young dog following humans around reached a nonprofit rescue organization named Sidewalk Specials, and they sent a team to retrieve Scribble. When they finally found him, the dog was still trying to follow people, and they quickly noticed his lame leg. Because the dog was not scared of humans and was eager to get help, the rescuers didn’t have a hard time capturing him.
Scribble was taken to their facility, where he received treatments and was given a safe and comfortable kennel to stay in. The group shared his story on their social media accounts, and the small pooch became even more famous. He eventually got invited to a TV show.
New found fame
With the big spotlight on the dog, Scribble got the whole nation’s attention. The TV spot also raised awareness of the burgeoning homeless dog population. And best of all, a family from Johannesburg saw Scribble and fell in love with him.
Within weeks after his appearance on the show, Scribble got on a plane and traveled to his new family. He no longer needs to beg for attention, he got all of the love and care he needed from then on.
