Derrick Monet and his wife Jenna are a young couple who lives in Maryland. During the early part of their marriage, they decided to rescue a dog and went to a local shelter. There they met Milo, a Bluetick Hound-Shepherd mix that belonged to a litter born in the facility. He and his siblings were kept in a kennel separate and far from the other rescue dogs because they had parvovirus.
Out of the whole litter, it was only Milo that survived. The couple fell in love with the little survivor and adopted him.
Ever since then, the young pup and Jenna have become very close. Because Derrick worked for the Air Force, he would sometimes be gone for extended periods of time. Milo kept Jenna company and comforted her when she felt lonely. The puppy became her emotional support dog.
A fatal crash
Derrick and Jenna, along with Milo, went to Indiana for vacation. Derrick placed his Tesla on autopilot on their way back home, and they crashed into a parked firetruck on the highway. Jenna died right away. Traumatized by the accident, Milo got out through a smashed rear window and ran away.
Derrick was rushed to the nearest emergency hospital and was treated for various severe injuries. In a few months, he received surgery for a fractured neck, exploded vertebrae, collapsed lung, and a broken femur. When Derrick was finally released from the hospital, he moved in with his mom, Brenda.
3,000-dollar reward
The grieving husband still has a long way to recover. Many of his injuries will leave lasting effects. He knows that he can’t have Jenna back, but he still hopes that his wife’s best friend will be returned to them.
The heartbroken family has done all they can to spread the word around. They have shared the dog’s photos numerous times and even offered a 3,000-dollar reward. Brenda hopes that her son will find some comfort with Milo’s return.
