A Labrador retriever named Pearl never imagined that she could still travel, but you can never tell, even for a dog. She never imagined saving many people’s lives and getting the chance to travel the world.
It all began when the Labrador retriever came to the canine shelter. Just like her other search dog friends, Pearl started a life roughly. Her first owner treated her harshly.
Pearl would escape to the yard and end up in Animal Control to escape the torture she suffered from her previous owner. Later, the owner stopped bailing her out and finally abandoned her at the animal center. Some canine trainers saw Pearl’s eagerness and sensed her ability as a rescue dog.
Soon, they got to know her better. The current handler of Pearl, Ron Horetski, the captain of Los Angeles firefighter, said that the dog could not be of use because she was hyper. But undeniably, Pearl and the firefighter were a great duo.
At the end of the training, the two received their FEMA certification. After the ceremony, a building collapsed in Puente, California, and off they went to test their abilities. They came through with recognition!
Pearl and the firefighter did not end their journey there. A disastrous earthquake affected Haiti in 2010, so the duo traveled together to rescue people. They rescued twelve people during their two-week stay in Port Au Prince.
Moreover, the pair went to Japan after the 2011 tsunami. They then traveled to Nepal to save people from the aftermath of an earthquake. Soon after, they became famous for their fantastic search and rescue story.
Pearl is with Horetski at home, as required by the program’s procedures, but they must be ready at any time. They need to reserve their energy in case of an emergency.
Pearl had a great adventure as a famous rescue dog. She made the tasks more accessible for her handler and other rescue team members. She was not just an ordinary pet but a responsible canine partner, too.
