Sallie Gregory-Hammett couldn’t miss the opportunity to write her special boy a heartwarming obituary to celebrate his life. Beloved by everyone he ever met, Charlie was an affectionate Golden Retriever who knew how to warm up to people.
Life would’ve been so different for Sallie, who was 23 and single at the time, if she didn’t have Charlie with her when she first moved into the city. Charlie was her first dog and faithful companion who stayed by her side wherever she went. From hiking trips to visits to Home Depot, Charlie made sure she never felt alone.
Whenever Sallie started dating someone, everyone’s focus would be on how Charlie reacted. However, Charlie’s opinion of whom Sallie dated would never turn sour because all he ever wanted was her happiness, not to mention how Charlie always got along with people anyway.
Everyone knew that Charlie’s place in Sallie’s heart was set in place. To get a shot at being her lifelong partner, one would have to show the same love for Charlie as Sallie. When David Hammett walked into Sallie’s life and interacted with Charlie, she knew he was the one and they eventually tied the knot in May.
Unfortunately, Charlie succumbed to lymphoma on September 13 after battling with it for five months. Devastated by this loss, Sallie channeled her grief into writing. She used her passion that not only gave her an outlet but also caught the attention of many social media users who sympathized with her.
I wrote my dog an obituary because of course I did. He was the best boy. pic.twitter.com/FKmqeivtq9
