We treat our pets as if they were our real children. Many of us also consider our dogs to be our best friends and most faithful companions who are willing to do anything to protect us. That is why many of us find the concept of eating dog flesh repulsive and even immoral.
However, certain Asian nations have a practice of consuming dog meat. Due to the great demand for dog meat in Asia, there are still numerous dog meat farms. Many of these dog meat factories have the worst living conditions for their animals.
Thankfully, in a number of Asian nations, new legislation prohibiting the operation of dog meat farms has been passed. In several nations, the sale of dog meat is a criminal violation. Numerous animal rescue organizations in Asia are also devoted to rescuing dogs from dog meat farms.
The Humane Society International is among these groups. In South Korea, the organization opposes the cruel treatment of dogs in dog meat farms. One of their most successful rescues occurred when they rescued almost 70 dogs from a dog meat facility.
The canines were confined in filthy, overcrowded cages with rotten food and waste. To save the 70 dogs from the dog meat farm, a massive operation involving collaboration with other animal rescue organizations from around the world was required.
Human Society International was able to find families in the USA as well as in the United Kingdom and Canada to adopt over seventy rescued canines from a dog meat farm. Numerous dogs were terrified of humans. After experiencing affection and care for the first time, they melted into the arms of their rescuer.
These dogs, who would have otherwise been butchered for their meat, were spared by the hardworking staff and volunteers of Humane Society International and other animal rescue organizations. In addition, they launched awareness campaigns throughout Asia that began to alter people’s perceptions of dogs.
