Eldad Hagar and Loreta Frankonyte, lead rescuers of the charitable group Hope For Paws, responded to an urgent call about a small dog seen near a busy road. They knew how dangerous the area was and they didn’t think twice about providing help. They hurried because they knew an innocent soul needed them.
Eldad spotted the small white stray dog immediately while driving down the thoroughfare. The pair approached the pooch cautiously as they wanted to keep it from running into traffic. Fortunately, the pup squeezed through the railing of a closed-off roadside property as it tried to get away from its rescuers instead of crossing the busy street.
Loreta reached out to the dog through the struts and tried to lure it closer with bites of cheeseburger. Although hungry, the pooch stayed at arm’s length away. Eldad thought of a better course of action to quickly and safely secure the pup.
Eldad inserted the gentle snare between the gaps and let the dog get comfortable with it. He then instructed Loreta to throw pieces of food near the loop of the snare. Eldad waited patiently for the pooch to get in the most optimal position before expertly looping it in.
The couple then calmed the resisting pup, ensuring it did not hurt itself. Loreta put a Lucky Leash on the pup as well for extra security. After it calmed down, the rescuers slowly pulled the dog out of the property.
Loreta and Eldad decided to name the dog, a female, Freya. They quickly whisked Freya to the vet, where she received a complete spa treatment. After a bath, the removal of the multitude of ticks in her fur, and a long nap, Freya looked like an entirely different dog.
Freya’s next stop on her fresh start is the Art N’ Paws foster home. She immediately warmed up to her foster family, bonding with kids and adults alike. Freya hopes to find her forever family the soonest.
