Catherine Herzog of Grand Forks, North Dakota has owned her beloved Charlie since he was a small puppy that she could still hold in just one hand. Even though he was fairly weak when he was small, she and her family still adored him.
One can only imagine Catherine’s anguish when Charlie disappeared suddenly in the winter of 2016. How could such a tiny dog endure the cold?
Catherine asked the police for aid in locating the white dog. She also visited local animal shelters and veterinary clinics to check whether Charlie had turned up there.
However, after months and years went without any word, the pet’s mother feared the worst. Charlie died of exposure or was run over by a snowplow or another vehicle.
As it turned out, Charlie was located in Morris, Manitoba, Canada, more than a hundred miles distant. Nobody knew how he got there, and the citizens of Morris themselves questioned where the dog whose tongue stuck out one side of his mouth came from.
A woman called Angie Prince-Smoke, who maintains a Facebook group for Morris residents, claims receiving a ton of posts about the white pooch during the last couple of years. In the winter, more individuals inquired about Charlie’s well-being out of concern for his safety.
A number of them have unsuccessfully attempted to entice and capture Charlie in the past. The dog would consume the food they threw him, but would flee as soon as his rescuers approached.
Last but not least, animal control personnel set up a coyote trap for Charlie. Following his capture, the puppy resided at 7 Acre Wood Animal Boarding Kennel.
Fortunately, Charlie’s collar contained identification tags. The facility promptly contacted Catherine and sent her a snapshot. Due to the dog’s lolling tongue, the pet mother immediately recognized him.
Catherine, unable to wait another minute, raced to Morris. Charlie was just as delighted to see his fur mom again, kissing her with all the pent-up feelings of the last two and a half years.
The fur mom is amazed at how the delicate canine endured through two severe winters, but she’s happy for the goodwill of the Morris locals. Charlie is likely back in North Dakota and resuming his privileged lifestyle.
