We all know how vital eyesight is. Almost all of the things we perceive are through our eyes. Imagine losing your sense of sight. Indeed, life would be so much harder.
An 11-year-old Golden retriever named Tao knows how hard it is to lose one’s eyesight. He wasn’t always blind. He used to live a perfect life. Since entering his senior years, he lost his vision to glaucoma.
According to Melanie, Tao’s mom, it all happened so fast. He was playing and doing fine and then suddenly shaking his head as if brushing off some pain in his face. A few hours later, he was declared blind and lost one eye, all on the same day.
After losing one eye, his mom prepped him right away for his life without relying on eyesight. She put so much effort into teaching him to move around without getting hurt. A few weeks after, his other eye was also removed.
The vet suggested putting down Tao because of his case, but Melanie gave a hard pass to the idea. For his owner, Tao is part of the family. It’s only his eyes that will be lost, not Tao’s soul, which is full of love and happiness. And it’s all that matters at the moment.
Despite the devastating turn of events, Tao moved on and learned to live his new life. He started to get by, but his owner doesn’t want him to be alone in his battles. So they decided to get Tao a new set of eyes in the form of a new pup named Oko.
Ever since Oko came into the family, he has been a great help to Tao. He never leaves his side and keeps him company wherever he goes. He even takes Tao’s leash and leads the way whenever necessary.
Tao became happier with his caring little brother. He felt safer with Oko. Soon enough, the two started running around the fields and preferred to take naps together.
Tao is lucky to have Oko by his side. On the other hand, Oko gets to learn to be a good guide dog every day. It’s a win-win situation. The best part of it all is the special bond they have created over time.
