Roughly two years ago, Samson, the golden retriever, joined Lea and Eric Hendey’s family as part of his training to be a medical response service dog. The pup was doing quite well in his job, but his fur mom said that most of the time, he would take it too seriously.
You see, even during his time off, Samson still wouldn’t play with other dogs and prefer to sit alone in a corner by himself. He was always very awkward around other canines and humans that Lea thought it was impossible for him to form any social connection with anyone.
Well, that was until Samson met a cat for the first time. The golden retriever was out traveling with his fur parents at that time when they happened upon a feline in a shop window. The moment Samson saw the cat, he immediately got excited and started whining at the glass, clearly wanting to play with the feline.
Lea and Eric were shocked at the pup’s reaction and quickly realized that Samson was a friendly canine after all. He just needed the right animal to play with. So without further discussion, the couple immediately set out to find the perfect cat for Samson, and that was where Cleo came in.
When she first came home with the couple, she was a bit hesitant to interact with Samson because of their massive size difference. But the golden retriever showed her that there was nothing to worry about. He showered her with so much affection that she warmed up to the canine in no time.
The duo had since become best friends and would often be seen snuggling on the couch and playing hide and seek. Whenever Lea and Eric took them on outdoor adventures, Samson and Cleo would also be inseparable. It was quite safe to say that the golden retriever had become more confident thanks to his feline buddy, and their fur parents couldn’t be happier. Watch the duo’s adorable story here.
