Meet Remington, the two-year-old golden retriever, and the newest member of the University of Carolina’s Chapel Hill baseball team.
Remington started as a service dog and now he’s making his way through stardom being the celebrity member of the team. But Remington is not the superstar we think that he is, he actually is present to provide emotional support to his team members.
He is like the baby of the team. The dog offers comfort, care, and calmness every after the game. Every training, players look forward to doing high-fives and fist bumps with Remington.
Remington’s trainer also brags that he knows a hundred commands. He knows how to open and close the refrigerator, wave, turn, read his commands on the card, and can even whisper!
At every start of home games, Remington brings a bucket of balls to the team and stands together with his teammates while holding his hat in his mouth during the singing of the national anthem.
His trainer also shares that the boys attend therapies most of the time just to see Remington. A player also shares that his presence is kind of special to them and knowing that Remington is always there is priceless for them.
Every time the boys are feeling extra down especially during the exams, Remington serves as their air of positivity. Seeing him makes them feel easier, he has the power to uplift everybody. He is an instant stress reliever, in fact, one of the boys said that their games and their grades gradually improved since the day of the arrival of Remington.
Remington is not just an ordinary dog, he is smart, loving, and disciplined. He knows how to charm his people. He has a natural charisma that the baseball team members cannot just neglect. Remington proved that dogs deserve a spot in the world of sports not just to play but to offer positive energy to the team and the people around them.
