Nana’s nipples and belly hung low. Most people ask Nana’s owner, Stephanie Doris if she has puppies up for sale. However, that is not the case, as her body looks that way now after being left at a Los Angeles City animal shelter years ago.
She’s currently eight years old, in human years, and is in bad shape. Speculatively, her previous owner pulled out her teeth, possibly resulting from biting his way out of his cage. She experienced some sad days, but it’s all past.
Nana does not have ears as well. Veterinarians guessed that amateurs did it and mishandled the job. Her ears were full of polyps and fungus at the time of her adoption, leading to the removal of her ear canal.
Stephanie said that she didn’t understand how or why people treated such lovely creatures like that, especially Nana, a sweet, innocent, and gentle dog. Her experiences did not affect her trust in humans; she believed she had already forgiven us.
In 2013, Nana found her way to a shelter. Stephanie did not look for a dog at that time. She wasn’t even a fan of the breed or thought of it.
Everything changed when she stumbled on a picture of Nana while surfing the internet. Her photo also has a plea made by the shelter staff to give her a temporary home, and that was that.
Until now, Stephanie cannot describe the feeling she got when she saw Nana’s photo, which overwhelmed her to adopt her. All she wants is to give Nana a new home and the love she did not receive from her previous owners. A decision both of them can agree on.
Instead of being temporary, it became a permanent home for Nana. Enduring the cruel life she had before, Nana experienced what every dog wanted to experience since the day they were born—a home, toys, snacks, and most importantly, love.
Currently, they live in Nevada. While Stephanie attends her medical school, Nana spends her day moving around their new home. She patiently waits for Stephanie to get home so she can return all the love she received.
The two spread awareness about how great pit bulls are and how humans abused them and tossed them away like trash after they used them. They can also be like Nana if a chance comes around. Stephanie shared that it’s always special whenever she shares their story, the day she saw her photo.
Stephanie runs an Instagram and Facebook page for Nana. She shows how cute Nana is to the world. They’ve also helped an “I Am Not A Monster” fundraiser for shelter pets. They also presented at the Pibble March in Washington.
Pibble is another term for pit bulls, and actor Rebecca Corry organized the march. She’s pleased that people like Stephanie shares her passion for pit bulls. Ultimately, Stephanie and Nana hope their story can inspire more people to adopt older dogs.
