Jessica Rudd is a happy mother of three kids, wife to an active duty U.S. Marine Corps battery commander, and a Marine Corps veteran herself. She served in Iraq back in 2008 and now experiences Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). And so, to help her manage her PTSD, Jessica had her rescue dog Chloe trained as a service dog through Semper K9.
Semper K9 is a combat veteran founded and operated non-profit organization based in Virginia that rescues and trains service dogs for veterans like Jessica free of charge. They aim to help enhance the quality of life for US army veterans that have been wounded, injured, and those who are critically ill.
And for Jessica, having this kind of assistance without any cost has been a big blessing to her.
Thanks to Chloe, she was able to keep a healthy mindset especially during the pandemic which has been definitely challenging for everyone. Chloe also kept her physically active and they would run two to three times a week. According to Jessica, Chloe is her ride or die when it comes to running. Having Chloe there by her side when she’s running keeps her from getting off her baseline.
And Chloe’s presence has not just been a big help to her in running but in her day-to-day life as well. There is just something about Chloe and her calmness that makes every day bearable and even a bit better. Chloe has also helped Jessica’s husband when he was deployed during the evacuation in Afghanistan. She was a good companion who helped him get through uncertain times.
Jessica is very grateful to Semper K9 for the opportunity and that she really didn’t know she needed Chloe until she had her. With Chloe, she feels more certainty even though these are times that there’s a lot that can’t be controlled over. If anything else, there’s always peace of mind when she’s with her.
