Queenie is a two-year-old Pit Bull that was found hiding behind a dumpster. She was malnourished and was in a bad condition. She was then taken to the Great Plains SPCA, an independent no-kill shelter in Kansas, where she stayed for more than 400 days.
Somehow, nobody wanted to take the gentle and loving dog home. The shelter staff was baffled and didn’t know why. Luckily, a man named Scott Poore got wind of Queenie’s situation and decided to help.
Whatever it takes
Scott is the founder of Mission Driven. It is a company that sells pet-themed apparel and goods to raise funds for animal shelters and to rescue homeless animals.
He thought that the best way to get Quennie adopted was to get her as much exposure as he could get her. So he planned to go and move in with her, and stay in the shelter until someone finally adopts her. And that’s exactly what he did.
Scott, taking along some bare necessities, made a spot for himself in her kennel and stayed with Queenie. He started taking videos of their interaction together and posted them online.
The first few days didn’t show much activity. There wasn’t much online interaction and reactions. But Scott persisted. He frequently gave updates and showed how good a dog Queenie is.
He posted about their short trip to get ice cream and when they would snuggle to get some sleep.
Send-off
Several days after, his posts started to catch attention. More people started sharing them and inquiries were coming in. Interest started rolling and it looked like Queenie was soon getting adopted.
After a week of staying in the shelter, a couple finally came in and adopted the dog. Joyful, the shelter staff lined up outside the shelter to give Queenie a send-off. Everybody cheered as she walked out of the building and walked straight to his new owner’s car. Scott, brimming with happiness, even led her leash.
Thankfully, the dog is now in his forever home. And posts made by her new mom showed how happy she is now.
